JASPER COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) — A Louisiana man was arrested Friday morning following a high-speed motorcycle chase that crossed two East Texas counties, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as George Frederick Park, 37, who was taken into custody after crashing his motorcycle during the pursuit.
The chase began around 10:59 a.m. when a Jasper County deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 96 that did not have a license plate. The rider failed to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 130 mph.
Due to safety concerns, Jasper County authorities initially terminated the chase as it approached Sabine County. However, the Pineland Police Department later picked up the pursuit when the same motorcycle turned southbound and re-entered Jasper County. Jasper County deputies and Texas Parks and Wildlife officers then rejoined the effort.
According to investigators, Park lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to pass a Texas Parks and Wildlife vehicle. The motorcycle sideswiped the truck before crashing, bringing the pursuit to an end.
During the arrest, deputies reportedly found Park in possession of methamphetamine and a pistol.
Park was charged with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident. Park sustained only minor injuries.
